Who we are

North West Equine vets was established in 2015, when neighbouring equine practices Dalehead and Westmorland joined forces to offer a wider range of services. In 2018 we teamed up with Aldington Equine Vets to further increase the wealth of expertise and facilities offered to our clients.

North West Equine Vets is proud to be INDEPENDENTLY owned by our directors Jane King, Paul Smith, Catherine Speakman and Richard Knight, all of whom are practicing equine vets at NWEV. This means that the care and the welfare of your horse is our number one priority, we do not answer to anyone else. We value the freedom to make individual choices whilst benefiting from collaboration within a larger group of like-minded independent practices within the XL Vets group. We share ideas, experience and knowledge in order to achieve the highest standards of equine veterinary care and welfare. There is no financial or strategic incentive.

We can re-assure you that despite many practices moving to the corporate market, we fully intend to remain an independently owned business. We have clinical freedom and report to only one boss, THE HORSE STOOD IN FRONT OF US.

What we do

Our aim is to provide exceptional equine care without compromising the personal attention that comes with a small, independent approachable practice.

Services
Practice standards
North West Equine Vets are a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) accredited practice, under the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme (PSS).
We continue to be accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as an Equine General Practice. This offers you, our clients, the reassurance that we promote and maintain the highest standards of veterinary care.
Practices are assessed across a range of different criteria encompassing areas such as our facilities, services, clinical expertise and the entire practice team. The Royal College focuses on how practices use their resources to create a positive outcome for patients and clients, rather than just premises and equipment.
We are proud to continue to reach these high standards.

Nurse training
Veterinary practices play a central role in the training of student equine veterinary nurses, both in vocational training and in providing clinical experience for equine veterinary nurses undergoing college training.
Being a training practice involves much more than the simple provision of a place of employment. We take pride in providing a safe and stimulating environment for enthusiastic trainees to learn and gain experience while building a future career. All students will have the provision of equine veterinary nurse training to meet the National Occupational Standards for equine veterinary nursing. These nationally agreed standards ensure that veterinary nurses are trained to a consistent level of skill and knowledge. They are consequently competent to enter the RCVS Register of Equine Veterinary Nurses and to practise responsibly in a variety of practice and other veterinary settings.
